I Have An Uncle Joe Too

My Uncle Joe called me the other night.  Not strange that he called, but strange because of the time he called.  It was 7:30pm pacific time.  He lives in a town outside of Atlanta, so it was 10:30pm his time.  You see - my Uncle Joe eats dinner rather early and goes to bed way before 8:00pm usually.  Of course when I saw his name pop up on the caller ID I hurried to answer.  We talked for about an hour, about nothing, and about everything.  

A while back Uncle Joe gave me a collection of his poems.  Thank goodness you can publish your own book online now, because that is exactly what I intend to do for him.  Enjoy --

Once I Knew

Once I knew how to play like a child

Imagination drifting and wandering wild

Allowing myself the abandon of childhood

Reliving a life in fantasy

Which was once reality.

Once I knew how to love like a child

Caring for everything in a very special way

Rejoicing at the beauty of many things

Farfetched and illusionary now

Yet real in the past.

Once I knew how to cry like a child

Sure wish that was possible today

Life would have had less emotional strain

Growing up would not have been a fantasy

It would have remained reality.

Wish I knew how to play like a child now

To recapture the past of my youthful years

To love unselfishly as I had once known

To live for the only reason for which I was born

True harmony with God and man.
